The Corporation Campus

Ripon Building named after the Governor General Lord Ripon, the father of Self- Government in India,is the seat of Chennai Corporation. "A vision in immaculate white" As S.Muthaiah aptly describes it,  Ripon Building, the headquarters of the Corporation, is the brain child of Josiah Child. 

The Ripon Building is white in colour and is located near the Central station in Chennai.  Earl of Minto, the Viceroy and Governor General of India laid the foundation on 12 December 1909.Build by Loganatha Mudaliar. It took 4 years to build at a cost of INR 7,50,000. It is 252 feet long and 126 feet wide building with a 132 feet tall tower, radiates in splendor of the Indo-Saracenic style.

The Municipal Corporation of Madras, after functioning from several other places, settled at Ripon building in 1913, with P.L. Moore as the President of the Municipal Corporation at the time of the inauguration.
