India is a country known for its rich culture and tradition. There are 22 languages that are listed in schedule 8 of the Constitution of India. In order to celebrate linguistic diversity, Ministry of Human Resource Development and CBSE has initiated Bhasha Sangam – Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
Nandini. G of Std. IX shared the information that she had gathered on the language of the day – Marathi.
Marathi – an Indo Aryan language predominantly is spoken by around 83 million people. This language was earlier known as Maharathi and it became Marathi during the 6th and 7th century.
The Native speakers of Marathi in India are the third largest in number after Hindi and Bengali. It has some of the oldest literature dating back to 900AD. The major dialects of Marathi are the “Standard” and “Varhadi” dialect.
The other languages that are influenced by Marathi are Koli and Malvani Konkani.
Shreya. K and Anish of Std. IX made the audience repeat the lines.
The story telling session in Marathi stole the show.
